4-Day Itinerary from Marrakech to Fes
Day 1: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
The tour begins in the morning with departure from Marrakech, heading toward Ouarzazate through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. The route crosses the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering panoramic views of mountain scenery and scattered Berber villages clinging to the hillsides.
A highlight of the day is the visit to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most remarkable fortified villages. Built from earth and stone on a hillside, this historic ksar has served as a backdrop for many well-known films. Walking through its narrow alleys and climbing toward the upper levels rewards visitors with sweeping views over the surrounding landscape.
The journey continues along the Road of One Thousand Kasbahs, passing the palm groves of Skoura and heading toward the Valley of Roses near Kelaa M’Gouna, a region famous for rose cultivation and traditional rose-based products. Later in the day, the scenery changes as you reach the Dades Valley, where towering rock formations and winding roads create a striking natural setting for the night.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Tinghir – Todra – Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, the route follows the Dades Valley, passing colorful villages and kasbahs scattered along the riverbanks. The drive leads to Tinghir, known for its expansive palm oasis, before continuing to the impressive Todra Gorges.
At Todra, sheer limestone cliffs rise dramatically above a narrow canyon carved by the river. There is time to walk along the stream and enjoy the cool atmosphere of this natural landmark, which is also popular with climbers and photographers.
In the afternoon, the landscape becomes increasingly arid as you travel toward the Sahara. Arrival in Merzouga marks the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes, where golden sands stretch as far as the eye can see. The evening is spent near the dunes, surrounded by the calm and silence of the desert.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert Exploration & Camel Ride
This day is dedicated to discovering the Sahara region. You explore the surroundings of Erg Chebbi, gaining insight into desert life and the contrasting landscapes shaped by wind and sand. Along the way, you encounter nomadic families and learn about their traditional lifestyle.
A visit to the village of Khamlia offers the chance to enjoy the rhythms of Gnawa music, a cultural heritage deeply rooted in the region. Later, you travel to Rissani, once an important caravan trading center, where you enjoy a traditional local lunch.
In the late afternoon, the desert experience reaches its peak with a camel ride into the dunes. As the sun sets, the colors of the sand shift into warm shades of gold and orange. The night is spent in a desert camp, with a traditional dinner, mint tea, music, and stargazing under the vast Sahara sky.
Day 4: Merzouga – Errachidia – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes
An early start allows you to witness sunrise over the dunes, a peaceful and unforgettable moment in the desert. After breakfast, you leave Merzouga and begin the journey north.
The route passes through Errachidia and follows the Ziz Valley, where long palm groves line the river. After a stop in Midelt, the scenery gradually changes as you enter the Middle Atlas Mountains.
In the cedar forests near Azrou, you may encounter Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. The journey continues to Ifrane, known for its alpine architecture and clean streets, often described as one of Morocco’s most distinctive towns.
By late afternoon or early evening, you arrive in Fes, where the tour concludes with drop-off at your chosen location.
