Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Dades Valley
The adventure begins in Marrakech with a departure toward the High Atlas Mountains. Crossing the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the road reveals panoramic views, winding mountain routes, and traditional Berber villages scattered across the slopes.
The first major stop is the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a striking example of traditional earthen architecture and one of Morocco’s most iconic historical sites. Its hilltop setting and maze-like alleys have made it a favorite backdrop for international films.
After continuing through Ouarzazate, the journey passes Skoura and the Valley of the Roses, a region known for its rose cultivation and seasonal festivals. By late afternoon, you reach the Dades Valley, where dramatic rock formations and scenic viewpoints mark the end of the day.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Ramlia Village
After breakfast, the route leads toward the Todra Valley, where a short visit allows you to explore the impressive Todra Gorges. Towering canyon walls and a flowing river create one of Morocco’s most striking natural landscapes.
Leaving the main tourist route behind, the journey continues toward Ramlia, a secluded Berber village rarely visited by travelers. Along the way, you pass through Alnif and venture off-road via Tazoulaite and Fezou, crossing vast desert plains and remote terrain.
A picnic is enjoyed under an acacia tree before arriving in Ramlia, a place where traditional rural life continues much as it has for generations. The village is known for its ancient irrigation systems and warm local hospitality. The evening is spent immersed in the quiet and simplicity of the desert surroundings.
Day 3: Ramlia Village – Rissani – Merzouga
Following breakfast, the journey heads toward Merzouga, passing through desert oases and wide-open landscapes. A stop is made in Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa heritage, where you can experience traditional music rooted in centuries-old African traditions.
Nearby, you may visit the seasonal lake of Merzouga, which attracts various bird species depending on rainfall. The route then continues to Rissani, once known as Sijilmassa, an important crossroads for trans-Saharan trade caravans. You explore the lively souk, where locals trade spices, produce, and handmade goods.
In the afternoon, you arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. After a short break, the desert adventure begins with a camel trek into the heart of the dunes. As the sun sets, the colors of the sand shift dramatically, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The night is spent in a desert camp, with dinner, traditional music, and stargazing beneath the vast Sahara sky.
Day 4: Merzouga – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate
Before sunrise, you have the opportunity to climb the dunes and watch the desert awaken with soft light and shifting shadows, a highlight of the Sahara experience. After breakfast, the journey continues westward.
The route passes through Alnif, Tazzarine, and Nkob before entering the lush Draa Valley, where long palm groves stretch along the river, and ancient kasbahs dot the landscape. This scenic drive showcases a striking contrast between desert plains and fertile valleys.
By evening, you reach Ouarzazate, known for its historic kasbahs and desert scenery, where you settle in for the night.
Day 5: Ouarzazate – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
After breakfast, the final leg of the journey begins. Traveling back through the High Atlas Mountains, the road climbs once again toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering sweeping views over valleys and mountain peaks.
The descent toward Marrakech marks the end of the desert adventure. Arrival is expected later in the day, concluding five days filled with diverse landscapes, cultural encounters, and unforgettable Sahara moments.
